The 2019 Australian Institute of Landscape Architects (AILA) Awards were announced on Thursday 21 June in Brisbane and we are very proud that our Bunya Adventure Playground has taken out the top gong for Best Play Space!
The Bunya Adventure Playground is the jewel in our Riverparks development in Upper Caboolture, and is sure to keep the kids in the community entertained for hours!
Fortress Group Sales Manager Garett Kleinschmidt said “the brief and design direction for the playground was to create a play space that had the feeling of immersion in nature.”
“We worked in hand with our highly skilled Landscape Architect SLR Consulting along with Playscape Creations & Interface Landscapes to create this truly adventurous playground, designed to retain the existing vegetation and engage with its natural surroundings.”
Setting a new standard for suburban residential community parks for nature-based play, The Bunya Adventure Playground is shaped by and around the natural setting and undulating landform.
“This was seen as a challenging and unique opportunity to create a playground that embraced the fun of sliding and climbing; activities reminiscent of a time when children sought adventure through nature,” Mr Kleinschmidt said.
Providing plenty of natural shade, the Bunya Adventure Playground is at the centrepiece of 10.6 hectares of established parkland and open green spaces reserved for residents to enjoy.
The Bunya trees at the entrance to the playspace are a stunning asset to the park environment, framing the fun within.
The multi-level playground experience provides something for everyone with an array of active and passive recreational spaces for all ages and abilities to gather to relax, socialise and exercise.
The top level of the playspace has a fantastic covered junior playground with swings, flat grassed area and twin 6.5m long super racing slides, allowing kids of all ages (including adults) to race down the embankment with a custom rope connector aiding the climb back up.
A 10.5m golden Mobius Climber – an Australian first – provides the most varied climbing experience.
Complimenting this space is a picnic shelter, providing the perfect area to watch all the action.
